Technische Universität Dresden, Institut für Abfallwirtschaft und Altlasten
Founded in 1828, Dresden University of Technology is among Germany's oldest universities of technology. As one of its rather new institutions, the Institute for Waste Management and Contaminated Sites Treatment (IWMS) has been created in 1995 to facilitate the approach to a wide area of problems in environmental science thru the combination of research topics in waste management, environmental protection and in systems analysis. The institute’s director, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. B. Bilitewski is professionally engaged in waste management for 30 years now. In spite of its young age the institute already has a large record of research activities performed both at national and international level and led a number of EU and governmentally supported projects covering in particular subjects related to the analysis and management of environmentally relevant risks and waste streams and their minimisation and treatment by different technical and policy measures. Connected thru the university to one of the largest libraries, the institute has access to research results obtained in Germany and in the entire world.
